NAQT Tournament
Temple University
Saturday, March 1st
This trip has two atypical features:
- The field is likely to be small, perhaps as few as 10 teams (with us being up to half of them)
- We are traveling using SEPTA because it is cheaper than getting a bus, and the train goes directly from the Wilmington station to a Temple University stop.
Traveling Details:
Departure - You must be at the Wilmington Train Station no later than 8:15 AM so that we can be on an 8:36 train. I suggest that we form carpools and meet there. We can't very well wait for you if you are late.
Return - Depending on the tournament, we will depart Philadelphia on either the 5:23 or 7:23 PM train. Thus, we will arrive in Wilmington at either 6:21 or 8:21. I have no details at this point to make a prediction as to which time is more likely, so please be flexible.
Tournament Details:
The questions are "regular" strength (aka level 2). Teams that have "expressed interest" include Moravian, Kellenberg, and a few Jersey schools like Bergen.
I always welcome parental chaperons if there are any that want to go.

and to head off the first questions:
- Anyone can go. I don't consider this to be a must-do trip, so if you have junior research that you're procrastinating on, have SAT's, don't want to go, etc., you don't have to. (But keep in mind that my attention shifts almost exclusively towards nationals after the Blue Hen.)
- I'm always up for a new adventure. This is probably just about the only tournament I would consider using the train, just because the stops are somewhat convenient. And it saves us from having to drive through North Philly.
- Speaking of which, emphasize to any weary parents that we are not actually going to be in the scary part of Philly. The stop is very close to campus, and campus is much, much different than town. I used to go to Penn Bowl every year and liked it, and was never afraid.
I wasn't sure if we were going to attempt this or not, but the changing of the weekend of quizbowl goodness set makes this a viable option. |

Haha... well, I bet that's not going to happen, since no one in Chinatown knows me. |

This just got a WHOLE lot more interesting. Here is the current status of the field as posted on hsquizbowl:
Bergen 2
Bloomfield 1?
Charter 4-5
Moravian 1?
Ward Melville 1?
Marine Academy 1?
Kellenberg 1?
Salisbury 1?
William Tennet 2
Stuy 2
Richard Montgomery ? |

Stuy is striking back again, eh? We haven't seen them since LIFT.
I'm just glad that Hunter is not coming to crush half of our teams to the ground. |

When Doug is playing, Stuyvesant is considerably stronger than Hunter-- at LIFT, he wasn't there because his parents were making him do work so that he could finally graduate high school (despite being a really good quizbowl player, he's a 5th-year senior).
RM is also highly dangerous as well. So this tournament has turned from an easy trophy to a hard-fought battle _________________ "There are panthers in the water!" |

He's referring to Douglas Yetman. He topped the individuals rank in TJ's back in October, surpassing even Guy from Hunter. |

hard-fought is right. i thought every team was going to have a winning record if we were half of the teams _________________ "Have everything in moderation, including moderation" |

Umm.... oh yeah, that guy who I remember from my readings of stat sheets from random tournaments that I do in my free time. _________________ "How about you and I conserve some linear momentum in an inelastic collision tonight? "

That's good. Another chance to knock Guy down a peg is always welcome. _________________ "There are panthers in the water!" |

The permission slip I'm looking at says 8:15, both on the page I typed and also the page where parents sign.
Due to the proposed round robin, I suspect we will be returning on the 7:23, which will put us in Wilmington at 8.21
I have bought the tickets. Apparently we fit into the "family plan", so you'll have to make "families" when boarding. |

Stephen,
I just confirmation about the building.
If someone could print this out for me I'd appreciate it. I actually do not have a printer at home because I can always use the ones at school.
From David at Temple:
We will meet in Anderson 8 tomorrow. Here's how you get there:
1. Walk toward and between the two huge buildings at Berks and
11th. Anderson is the one on the south side. (Gladfelter is
the other).
2. Once you enter, walk toward the elevators, but instead of
going in them, take a left, toward the AL classrooms. (You
may need to sign in with security; if everyone could bring
some limited form of ID to be safe, that might be good, though
hopefully they'll just let us wave you through.) Walk to the
end of that hall and take a left and go to the small,
dinky-looking elevator.
3. Take the dinky elevator down to G. 8 should be easy to find. |
