|
|
These are the questions that were actually used.
1. An early version of this character was a “diminutive loudmouth” who explored space in a dirigible with his sidekick Fargle. This character’s first incarnation was as Raumfahrer Rolf but he did not appear until the twelfth strip of a more popular comic. His primary weapon had various settings such as “Medium Well”, “Liquefy”, and “Shake-n’-Bake”. He frequently crashes his ship on such planets as Zog, Zok, Plootarg, and Gloob. His run ins with the Graknils and Zorgs are actually encounters with his parents and Mrs. Wormwood. FTP, name this space-opera inspired alter-ego of Calvin.
Spaceman Spiff
>>>>This question was left (almost) entirely the same from my submission to the actual reading. I was atleast happy about that. I was proud of this question.
2. Given a list of super powers give the X-Man most typically associated with them, FTPE.
1. The ability to pass through solid matter
Katherine "Kitty" Pryde a.k.a Shadowcat
2. The ability to “charge” items with kinetic energy, typically a deck of cards
Remy LeBeau a.k.a. Gambit
3. Psychometry, Superhuman agility, and “Super Luck”
Longshot
>>>>This also was left mostly unedited. I feel a bit bad about this question. Anyone who listened to my ramble on about how awesome Gambit and Longshot were would've easily gotten 30 on this bonus. Oh well
3. He is known as Charlie in France, Walter in Germany, Holger in Denmark, and Willy in Norway. His arch nemesis Odlaw first appeared in his fifth book. He has no familiar relations but he has an ex-girlfriend Wilma and his current girlfriend Wenda. When in ancient Egypt you can find him near the mummy coffins, it is difficult to find him amongst a group of pirates due to the pirates affinity to stripped shirts, though he is easily picked out in the future. FTP, name this literary character that sports a white and red stripped sweater that you must find in a series of books.
Waldo
>>>>That was the original incarnation of the Waldo tossup. The beginning may be a bit early if you manage to catch onto the theme. I wasn't too happy with the way they edited it but whatever
4. A wiki was formed with a similar name in 2006 in an attempt to update this work. A radio station, two movies, two albums, and a record take their title from this work which Mona Simpson is known to read. Published in 1971 certain publishers claimed that “This book will end free speech”. Topics covered in this book include how to create a legal defense, proper riot clothing, how to live in a commune, and how to get a free buffalo. For 10 points, name this book by Abbie Hoffman whose title resulted in many copies being filched.
Steal This Book
>>>>For this question they basically re-arranged alot of my clues and added in a few more. Wasn't too angry about their final product
5. This product was originally invented by Ronald Howes though that distinction is usually given to others. One such misconception was spread on Unwrapped when the show claimed that a deceased Kenner salesman was responsible for this toys origin. In 2003 it was given neutral colors to appeal to both sexes and it upgraded to two pans. However, in 2007 close to one million were recalled because of the burns a child could receive from the 100 watt light bulb inside. FTP, name this TRASH stable and venerable children’s toy where one can cook deserts and now meals.
Easy-Bake Oven
>>>>Mostly the same. I felt like I had to include it due to its common appearance.
6. It’s not Ocarina of Time but a portion of this game takes place in interior of a large fish. It’s not the Jungle Book 2, but it features the voice of Haley Joel Osment. It’s not Final Fantasy but it is produced by Square Enix. It’s not a Disney movie but it features Donald, Goofy, Jack Skellington, and many others. FTP, name this Play Station 2 RPG that focuses on Sora, Riku, and an entire cast of Disney Characters.
Kingdom Hearts
>>>>The only thing that remained the same between this question and its re-incarnation was the answer. While the second clue is pretty much a give-away, if they had put another clue or two at the top it would've been fine.
7. FTP, given lesser known tracks, name the Scottish band. If you need some better known tracks, you will get 5 points.
10: The Finish Line, You Could be Happy
5: Run, Chasing Cars
Snow Patrol
10: The Dark of the Matinee, Michael
5: Take Me Out, Do You Want To
Franz Ferdinand
10: Throw the R Away, King of the Road
5: Sunshine on Leith, I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)
The Proclaimers
>>>>For the most part unchanged. They changed the last part to some loser band I've never heard of. This bonus was fine the way it was. The Proclaimers are known enough to show up in trash (particularly if you mention "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)"
8. A mash-up of this album was taken down ten day’s after its release until it was released by many websites and P2P services in protest. In the mash-up’s cover art the grenade featured prominently on this album is replaced with a mouse. A movie adaptation of this album is “definitely going to happen" according to Billie Joe Armstrong, the band’s front man. FTP, name this album, most recent by Green Day, that featured singles such as Holiday and Boulevard of Broken Dreams.
American Idiot (The mash-up album is called American Edit)
>>>>They added a bunch of clues to the front of this (which made the question look like a bloated corpse of a question).
9. Given objects depicted in the opening sequence, name the TV show, for ten points each.
1. A door, a shattering window, an eyeball, the theory of special relativity, a mannequin, and a clock.
The Twilight Zone
2. A rowboat, a swing set, window shudders, a skateboard and a clown doll in an attic, a fan, a door, and a hand holding a burning match.
Are You Afraid of the Dark
3. Advertisements for Mass Hypnosis Hour, Def-con Owl repellant, Bachelor Chow, and Robot Oil.
Futurama
>>>>They changed the last part which I can understand. When I saw the similarities to The Twilight Zone and Are You Afraid the Dark opening sequences I decided to write a bonus about it but the third part was hard to do. Luckily Futurama was on.
10. This son of two lawyers portrayed Carl in the movie adaptation of Heinlein’s Starship Troopers. His career began in 1988 with the two movies Clara’s Heart and Purple People Eater. Until 2000 he had starred in Stark Raving Mad with Tony Shalhoub. He also parodied himself in the 2004 Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle. For 10 points, name this recently outted actor famous for Barney on How I Met Your Mother and the namesake doctor on Dookie Howser, M.D.
Neil Patrick Harris
>>>>For the most part unchanged. They did change the placement of the Starship Troopers clue. Apparently they thought he was known for portraying Carl, but no buzzers went down when that clue dropped.
11. Given clues, name the faux trailer from Grind House, for ten points each.
1. Nicholas Cage plays Fu Manchu in this faux trailer directed by Rob Zombie
Werewolf Women of the SS
2. The namesake character in this faux trailer, not released in all American theatres, kills armed robbers, corrupt cops, and a pedophilic Santa Clause.
Hobo With a Shotgun
3. This faux trailer will become a direct to DVD movie starring Cheech Marin and Danny Trejo as the namesake Mexican.
Machete
>>>>Changed the answer in the first part to Rob Zombie instead of Werewolf Women which I can understand. That way someone who didn't see Grindhouse has a prayer of getting 10 points
12. Its not ~North by Northwest~ but an IMDB keyword for this film is crop duster. Its not ~The Fast and the Furious~ but acting credits are given to Matt Schulze. Its not ~Tomorrow Never Dies~ but it features a BMW E38. Its not ~Lethal Weapon 4~ but the plot focuses on illegal smuggling of Chinese people. Its not ~Crank~ but it stars Jason Statham. FTP, give this 2002 action film centering on the actions of Frank Miller in the namesake profession.
The Transporter
>>>>Same answer, heavily changed question. That North by Northwest bit was a little joke for Tressler, though I don't think it would've helped him answer the question. One can notice how NAQT regulations have changed my writing, you can see the code for how I wanted my words italicized.
So thats it. They used 12 questions, which is less than a fourth of my packet. Those bastards |
